Privacy notice
Hire from Nigeria is a private sector-led national campaign, co-led by Tech4Dev and Univelcity. This notice explains what we collect when you talk to Timi or browse this site, why we hold it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
This notice is under legal review. The wording may change, and we will update the date at the foot of the page when it does.
Who is responsible for your details
Tech4Dev and Univelcity are joint controllers of what you send us. They co-lead the campaign and both use what you send to respond to you. You can exercise any of the rights below with either of them, and the single contact address below reaches both.
What we collect when you talk to Timi
Timi is a guided intake, not a human, and a human reads every conversation. What we collect depends on which track you choose:
- Your name, and the company or organisation you represent
- Your email address, which Timi always asks for last
- Where you are based, as a country or a city
- What you are looking for: the category of work, the size of team, your timeline, and for operators whether you already serve international clients
- Anything you type in your own words, including an optional message
- The full text of the conversation, so the person who replies can read what you actually said rather than a summary
We only keep a conversation if you finish it and send it. If you close Timi part way through, nothing is recorded.
What we collect automatically
When you submit a conversation, our forms provider records your IP address, your browser's user agent string, and the page you came from. This is standard and is used to filter automated abuse.
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand which parts of the campaign are working. It sets cookies in your browser. If you decline, no analytics cookie is set and the site works exactly the same. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie choices link in the footer.
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not share your details with advertisers. Our analytics is configured so that advertising storage stays switched off permanently, not merely unused.
Why we hold it, and on what basis
We hold what you send so that a member of the coalition team can respond to you and introduce you to the right operators or partners.
Our legal basis is your consent, which you give by finishing a conversation with Timi and sending it. You can withdraw it at any time by asking us to delete what you sent, and withdrawing it costs you nothing other than not hearing back from us. Analytics cookies are a separate consent, given or declined in the banner.
Who can see it
Members of the coalition team who have been given an account on our internal console. Access requires a personal sign-in; accounts are created deliberately and cannot be self-registered. Every change to a submission's status or notes is recorded against the person who made it.
Who processes it for us
Each of them acts on our instructions and is bound by a data processing agreement. None of them may use what you send for their own purposes.
- Netlify, which hosts this site and captures form submissions
- Supabase, which provides the database where submissions are stored
- Google Analytics, only if you accept analytics cookies
Where it is stored
Your submission is stored in the United Kingdom. Our database sits in the London region of Amazon Web Services, which is where Supabase hosts our project. Before it reaches that database it passes through Netlify's form storage, which is in the United States.
So your details are held outside Nigeria, where the coalition operates. NDPA 2023 requires a lawful basis for that, and we rely on the same consent you give when you send the conversation. The United States leg relies on the standard contractual protections in our agreement with Netlify, which is what United Kingdom and European Union rules require for a transfer of that kind.
How long we keep it
We keep what you send for 24 months from the day you send it, then delete it. That period covers both the details you gave Timi and the full text of the conversation, and it is set to cover a realistic hiring cycle plus one follow up campaign season.
If you ask us to delete it sooner, we do, and we do not keep a copy. Our internal record of who on our team read or updated your submission is deleted along with it.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of what we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Because we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, for the submission and for analytics separately, and we stop. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union you can also ask us to restrict what we do with it, ask for it in a portable form, and complain to your data protection authority. If you are in Nigeria, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
To make any of these requests, email hello@hirefromnigeria.org and say what you would like us to do.
We will respond without undue delay and within one month of receiving your request. If a request is complex enough that we need longer, we will tell you inside that month and explain why.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your details we will update this page and change the date below.
